Sara Fernandes’s House

This ancient piece of antiquity in the tranquil village of Chandor, known locally as Voddlem Ghor, goes really back in time. The palatial house has its base in a fort constructed over 500 years back and belongs to the pre-Portuguese era . It has gradually morphed itself into different forms in accordance with the people who have lived in it at different times, and the need of the age. One of the present inhabitants of the house opens a door and shares with you to a world gone by with great warmth and longing. A step inside and one is transported to faraway times, times lived well, times lived in élan, times lived in fear and unease, times lived in the ambiguous greys of the present and the yesteryears.

Bubble Lake, Netravli

The Budbudyanchi Tali or the bubble lake also known locally as Budbud Talli or Bomadyanchi Talli is located in Netravali in the Sanguem taluka. It is a sacred tank of bubbles attached to the Gopinath temple and appears to be green and very clean.

The Budbudyanchi Tali or the tank of bubbles is well known in Goa as here one can see continuous bubbles rising up to the surface at different spots. There are various legends regarding the origin of these bubbles and according to some it is a miracle of the local deity. However, according to scientists, the bubbles can be caused by sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, limestone or methane.

The bubbles at the Budbudyanchi Tali are known to strangely increase in intensity if one claps loudly. The tank in form of laterite masonary has a flight of steps all around leading to the sacred tank. A huge box-shaped laterite pedestal is located at the centre of the tank.

Rock Engravings at Pansaimol, Sanguem.

The tiny settlement of Usgalimol (also referred to as Pansaimol) near the village of Rivona in Sanguem taluka in south Goa is host to an extraordinary site – a gallery of petroglyphs inscribed on a bed of laterite. The objects set in stone include human and animal forms, symbols, and implements. The area of interest covers approximately 60 x 30 sq. metres and is located cheek by jowl along a flank of the River Kushavati.

The Harvalem Waterfalls & Pandawa Caves

Harvalem Waterfall

The Harvalem (Called as Arvalem by locals) waterfall, which cascades down from the mountains from a height of 50 meters, is one of the most awe-amazing spots. It is situated at about 2 km from the small town of Sanquelim and 8 km from Bicholim, in North Goa. The waterfall is very scenic and is a beautiful picnic spot. People can explore the thunderous gush of water cascading down the rocky cliffs. The beautiful Harvalem fall, with a head of about 24 feet high, forms a sizable lake at the bottom where the visitors and the admirers of temple take an immersion in water.

Harvalem Caves

Harvalem Caves or the “Pandava Caves”. Located in the Bicholim town of North Goa, these caves are ancient rock cut caves that give us a chance to steep into the mythological tales. The origin of these caves dates back to the 6th century.

Popularly known as the Pandava Caves, these caves have derived their name from the five Pandavas of the epic Mahabharata. As the legend has it, the Pandavas sought refuge in these caves during their exile. The presence of five compartments and Shivlingas in the cave complex provides relevance of this fact. However, the caves have also been claimed to be of Buddhist origin due to presence of a huge statue of Buddha near the place. The architectural style of the caves also speaks loud of the Buddhist possession. The opinions regarding the origin of the caves have been ambivalent from years.

The architecture of the caves is simple yet appealing. The walls are plain with no paintings on them. The rock structure has been cut into laterite stone.
